
Ranks (Dan / Kyu) in Kudo
Promotion for Dan and Kyu for members of Kudo Federation is conducted by means of grading / skills examination.

Belt Colors
​As a rule, new student has no Kyu when starting (white belt). When a student complies with the requirements concerning attendance and physical readiness, he/she is granted the right to take belt promotion exam where his/her skills level will be assessed and respected belt is awarded. 1st Kyu takes promotion exam for Shodan and a black belt is awarded upon successful completion of exam. Upon Nidan and above golden stripes are added to the black belt.

Kihon Keiko
Performing punches and Kicks from static position, keeping good balance during performance, using body motion in all techniques while maintaining good form.

Ido Keiko
Perform Kihon form while moving.
* Senior belts (Yellow and above) do kicks with punches combination.

Yakusoku Kumite
In Yakusoku Kumite, both the attacking partner and defending partner are examined. The purpose is to demonstrate ability to control the distance, maintain good form, and execute defense basics.
In defense the one can use blocks, parries, slips, ducks, sways, step-backs, clinches, pushing and front stopping kicks.

Nagewaza
White belts are expected to demonstrate descent breakfall (ukemi) techniques for personal safety.
Green belts demonstrate throwing entries (Uchikomi) only, brown belts demonstrate full throws (Nage) in motion.
Green belts are required to demonstrate basic ground work attacking techniques(Newaza), brown belts required to be able to escape or perform ground attacks from the-bottom position.

Promotion Exam Sparring (Kumite) Rules
10~9th Kyu - Punches and kicks to the body only
8~7th Kyu - Only jabs and straight punches to the head + kicks
6~5th Kyu - As above + hooks and uppercuts to the head + kicks
4~3rd Kyu - As above + elbows + head butts + throwing
2~1st Kyu - Full Kudo Kakuto standup rules (all punches, kicks, elbows, headbutts, elbows), Clinch sparring Kumi-Waza (Elbows,knees headbutt, throws, takedowns while in clinch), Ground sparring w/submission holds
